Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to my new Namaste Newsletter - I hope you'll find inspiration to help shine a light on your path for 2007. It's in these new beginnings that we give thanks for what has brought us to this place. I'm so blessed to have all of you in my life... thank you.

Going home for Christmas is one of the most treasured times of my year, not only for my mother's homemade cooking or the beautifully decorated tree, but for the time it allows me to do absolutely nothing. So much of nothing, in fact, I'm exhausted by the end of my visit. In all of this nothingness, I find so much of something that was missing for so long...time. When I'm at home there's a natural space that allows me to process the events of my year and, more importantly, to tap into the emotional currents underlying each one as they get filed away into my subconscious. How will I incorporate the lessons from my past in order to grow in the future?
I'm so utterly fascinated by the process of setting a New Year's resolution because I find that I set the same one over and over again. There is a karma we're meant to work through in this life and what better time to reflect upon our life's work than at the beginning of a new year. It's in giving reverence to our past - our past experiences, our past patterns of thought and behavior, and our past opinions - that we can create an intention for the future. Unlike those New Year's resolutions that fizzle before you even begin, a real intention is set from a place of love and truth, and only in doing your own spiritual work, your own self-study, can you come from this place.
As you review your past year, examine your emotional response to each event both in this moment and at the time in which they occurred. Which events, thoughts, emotional responses and behavioral patterns do you witness over and over again? When witnessing your reactions, which ones served you and your true Self and which ones perpetuated your bad habits? Can you identify a common thread that weaves through the entire year? Based on your observations, set an intention for the year to come that will promote a healthy and conscious change in your life.
Believing, with your whole heart, that change is possible is the key to breaking the vicious cycle of our habits. A heart filled with doubt and fear creates an environment where even the strongest desires will struggle to survive. Instead of nurturing our intentions, we sabotage them. If we understand that there's no difference between the world outside and the one within us, we can know the power of our minds - whether or not you think your resolution is possible, you're right. In what reality are your doubts and fears grounded? What proof do you have that your resolution will never manifest?
Believe. Ground yourself in yourself and all things and thoughts that inspire a sense of purpose and confidence in your world. Simple changes in your life can promote a supportive and loving environment, encouraging you to examine all angles of possibility, not just the ones you've slipped into in the past. Reflect, with compassion, on the parts of your life you've neglected over the past year - your favorite hobbies, your family or friends, your beloved rituals? Where could you reconnect with what makes you, you?
For me, the most powerful part of this process is in receiving the end result. Too often I find myself stressed out about the "hows", wracking my brain for the logistics needed to make my intention a reality. But the beautiful truth in life is that the "hows" are delivered in ways we could only imagine. When we try to control the process, we confine it to the laws of our own limited minds. Why not, then, allow the process to evolve in the infinite realm of possibilities? It is our responsibility to breathe, believe and receive - the rest is a gift to us from the universe. Invite an abundant new year into your life, full of blessings and happiness and then let it go. It will come.
All you have to do is ask. |

Building Your Home Practice
Friday, January 12th
www.devotionyoga.com
What would your life be like if you were able to experience your yoga practice every day - as an integral part of creating balance in your life and as second-nature as brushing your teeth? Yoga is traditionally intended as a home practice, where wisdom and inspiration are nurtured through our organic relationship to Life. At home we learn to trust our own true teachers - intuition, breath and heart - empowering us from within. In this workshop we'll learn the benefits of creating a home practice and we'll examine the many obstacles that seem to stand in our way. Studying the components of a well-rounded class, we'll design, as well as practice, our sequence and we'll learn to adapt this foundation to accommodate changes in lifestyle, health and ability. You will leave inspired and ready to make yoga a part of your daily, natural life.
